Dependable Friday, July 1, 2011 B5 In brief FARMING Record amount of corn planted A record amount of corn was planted in Ohio this year, providing a sharp turnaround from a month ago when many farmers thought the entire season might get washed out by weeks of heavy rain. Some excellent weather in early June and increasingly advanced growing methods were credited with the change in fortunes.The amount of corn produced per acre expected to be at record levels because of the late start, but farmers and experts believe yields could at least be average. Wheat farmers, who also were set back by bad weather, have made a similar rebound.

Zimmerman (deceased) of Kettering was her closest relative in the US and was like a brother to her and her husband, Herman. She is also survived by her great niece, Heidi (Zimmerman) Gasper and husband David of Kettering, her great nephew, Peter Zimmerman and wife Julie of Kettering, great, great nieces and nephews, Keith Gasper and wife Katie of Columbus, Sarah (Gasper) Browning and husband Jacob of Dayton, Eric Gasper, Emma Zimmerman and Andrew Zimmerman all of Kettering.

Emilie and Herman were married in Germany in September, 1933 and Herman brought his bride to Springfield, Ohio after their marriage. They were married for 50 years until his death in January 1984. Emilie and Herman had many, many friends whose friendship and company they enjoyed over the years. Emilie continued to live in Springfield until 2006 when she moved to Kettering to live with Peter and his family. She was like a mother, aunt and grandmother to Heidi and Peter and their children.

Emilie was loving, energetic, vibrant, and full of life and laughter. She loved telling a humorous story and never complained about anything. She was a wonderful German cook and avid cro- cheter. Services will be 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with visitation one hour prior to services. The family wishes to particularly thank Fidelity care giver, Sandy and Cindy of Hospice of Dayton, and all extended family and friends who have cared for and supported Emilie with prayers, visits and kindnesses.
